Between summer 2022 and autumn 2023 LNGnet will organise 3 international events: two international workshops and one high-level conference. The first international workshop took place in Florence, Italy on 23 June 2022. Against the backdrop of Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine and its implications on global gas markets it provided an opportunity to discuss the global energy supply-demand balance and learn about EU policy proposals to reduce the energy dependency on Russia while ensuring both Europe’s supply security and its transition towards climate neutrality. Presentations and moderated panel discussions provided insights into the European Commission’s REPowerEU communication and into LNGnet’s recently concluded workstreams on the role of LNG in different transitioning energy economies in Europe, Asia and Africa, and on international efforts to reduce methane emissions.
Workshop participants gathered at a working dinner on the eve of the workshop (June 22) and had the opportunity to join a site visit on the next day (June 24).
